River fishing

The Peak District’s rivers are renowned for their quality and are among the best in Britain. Excellent river fishing is available on various rivers throughout the Peak District including the Wye, Derwent, and Dove known for their rainbow trout, wild brown trout, and grayling.

Coarse fishing

Tittesworth, Rudyard, Ladybower and Carsington Reservoirs make good fisheries with day tickets readily available -  visit www.moretoexperience.co.uk. Some excellent coarse fishing is available on mainly privately owned lakes.

Many of the Derbyshire Peak District waters are controlled by the large estates of Haddon and Chatsworth and by clubs and associations, so much of the fishing is on a seasonal let, though day tickets can be obtained on some waters.

For game and coarse fishing you must have:

•A valid permit from the appropriate association or owner

•A national rod licence (available from all post offices and the Environment Agency’s web site)

The Trent Rivers Trust have introduced Peak Passport, a roving angling scheme, which provides access to many beats of wild and uncharted waters in the High Peak on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire borders. This is the area immortalised by Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton in The Compleat Angler. Angling Passport (810KB) Adobe pdf document

The Peak District enjoys an extensive public transport network, enabling you to have a full day out exploring the area without using the car.
