Strategies and action plans

All our work is guided by Authority policy which is based on regional and national policies and other research.  Where appropriate, Authority Policy is converted into Strategies (what we are going to do) and Action Plans (how we are going to do it).

Biodiversity Action Plan
Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP)

Biodiversity encompasses the whole variety of life on Earth. This includes all species of plants and animals, the genetic variation among them, and the ecosystems of which they are a part. It is about the commonplace as well as the rarities.

The Biodiversity Action Plan is put forward as the primary nature conservation document for the Peak District, shared between a wide-ranging partnership of organisations. It aims to set the agenda for wildlife conservation priorities in the area over the next ten years, and to help guide the policies and actions of all those who influence the wildlife of the Peak District.

Climate Change Action Plan
Climate Change Action Plan

Climate change is probably the single biggest issue facing society today. That’s why it is becoming a key focus of our work in the Peak District National Park.  National parks play a big role in tackling climate change issues – both in minimising the impact and adapting to any changes. We’re already doing a lot of work but we recognise there is much more we can do. This document outlines the actions that need to be taken within the National Park to help mitigate the causes of, and adapt to the effects of, climate change in the years to come.

Cultural Heritage
Cultural Heritage Strategy

Cultural heritage is a key element in the social, economic and environmental development of the Peak District.  The Cultural Heritage Strategy first sets the national, regional and local context, explains terms and provides an overview of the cultural heritage of the Peak District, and then identifies what should be done and how, who should do it and what the results should be.

Landscape Strategy
Landscape Strategy and Action Plan

The Peak District National Park was Britain’s first National Park. It is a treasured landscape that has been shaped by the long interaction of natural and cultural forces.  The Landscape Strategy and Action Plan for the Peak District National Park describes the eight distinct landscape areas of the national park, and sets out what needs to be done to ensure the unique landscapes are protected.

Minerals Strategic Action Plan
Minerals Strategic Action Plan

For centuries the rich geology of the Peak District has encouraged the search for workable minerals.  In a nationally protected landscape of great beauty and where the principal driver in the economy is tourism, the proper control of approved mineral sites is vitally important.

Recreation Strategy
Recreation Strategy

Promoting opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of our national parks. is one of our purposes.   This ten  year strategic plan will guide the way recreation services and facilities are provided and managed in the national park by itself and partners. It will also help to promote the range of opportunities on offer and an understanding of the balance between recreation and conservation.
