Latest legal issues

An experimental Traffic Regulation Order (RTRO) has been agreed for Chapel Gate, between Edale and Chapel-en-le-Frith. Read Chapel Gate TRO documents to see how the TRO will be applied.

Highway authorities are responsible for producing what is called the Definitive Map – this gives the legal status of routes and says who can and can’t use them. The legal right to use many of these routes has yet to be clarified. You can find out more about this by using the search box on the following websites:

Latest News Regarding the Winchester Case

At the Derbyshire County Council REGULATORY LICENSING AND APPEALS COMMITTEE on 18 OCTOBER 2010 members resolved to close claims for Byway Open to All Traffic on the following routes within the Peak District National Park:

  • Claim to upgrade Great Longstone Public Bridleway No 26 (known as Taylors Lane) to a Byway Open to All Traffic (dated 10 September 2003) – Case 19768
  • Claim to add route known as Green Lane, Pikehall as a Byway Open to All Traffic (dated 17 November 2004) – Case 25549
  • Claim to upgrade Hartington Public Footpath No.1 to a Byway Open to All Traffic (dated 31 October 2004) – Case 24869
  • Claim to upgrade Hope Public Bridleway No. 32 & Hope Woodlands Public Bridleway No. 5 to Byways Open to All Traffic (dated 9 December 2003) – Case 20884
  • Claim to upgrade Hope Woodlands Public Bridleway No. 12 to a Byway Open to All Traffic (dated 17 July 2002) – Case 15173
  • Claim to upgrade Hope Woodlands Public Bridleway No. 13 to a Byway Open to All Traffic (dated 17 July 2002) – Case 15168
