Trails Management Plan

Get involved in planning for the future of the Trails…

The National Park Authority own and manage four multi user recreational trails within the Peak District. These are the Monsal Trail (with four recently opened tunnels), the Tissington Trail, the High Peak Trail, and the Thornhill Trail.

All four trails are popular with a wide variety of user groups, including walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and being old railway lines they offer great easy access routes within areas of real landscape beauty; rich in wildlife and historic interest.

We are just starting the process of preparing a five year Management Plan for these trails and recognising their importance to locals and visitors alike, we would like to give you the opportunity to get involved and feed into the Management Plan process directly.

Trails Saturday will take place on 20 August and we will be asking visitors what they most like about the trails and their ideas for how the trails can be improved. This event will take place at the following four locations:

  1. Ashbourne Cycle Hire Centre on the Tissington Trail
  2. Parsley Hay Cycle Hire Centre on the High Peak Trail
  3. Millers Dale Station on the Monsal Trail
  4. Carr Lane Car Park on the Thornhill Trail

If you aren’t able to make this event however, you can still take part by completing our online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/peaktrails

We are also establishing a Steering Group which will represent the main user and interest groups associated with the trails. The member details will be included on this page shortly. The Steering Group will be an invaluable forum within which management issues and options can be discussed fully and it will be instrumental in agreeing the Management Plan.
